OPINION: Clemson’s soundtrack of victory conjures memories of what the Canes once were5 Takeaways: Miami Hurricanes at ClemsonOPINION: Hoops win today doesn’t offset the obvious rebuilding job ahead of Mario Cristobal with the Canes losing 40-10 at ClemsonANALYSIS: Miami Hurricanes fall behind quickly, 21-0, have offensive struggles throughout and fall at Clemson, 40-10Grading the Miami Hurricanes: Breaking down the Clemson gamePhoto gallery: Miami at ClemsonVIDEO: Miami Hurricanes vs. Clemson highlights

OPENING STATEMENT: Obviously slow start for us. Showed some life in the third quarter, got ourselves in a situation where we had the ball down a couple of score. But then a couple of mistakes and then the game got away from us clearly at the end.

On offensive struggles: They did a good job up front. They have a really good front seven. Couldn’t get a ton of movement, couldn’t get the ground game going, quarterback runs didn’t pop until late in the game. The way they were playing it they were forcing the handoff and so we just didn’t get much going. Credit to them. We didn’t execute as well as they did.

On the switch to Jake Garcia giving a little bit of a spark to the offense: A little bit. At that point trying to use both because of what they were doing. Again, the quarterback runs weren’t a big thing and felt that Jake had a pretty good feel for some of the things we wanted to do in the passing game so we used him. Jacurri is a young guy, man, he played his butt off, tried his best. It was a lot.

On the defense: They did a great job. The defense kept us in the game, gave us an opportunity. Down by 16 points, right, and you have the ball in good field position. You have a chance to make this a really good game in the fourth quarter and we came up short. That’s when we turned the ball over or whatnot. A lot of good stuff by them, obviously. A coule of guys had some standout performances and then in the fourth quarter we gave up a score.

On if Jacurri Brown hits Xavier Restrepo early on the long pass maybe it’s a different game: They blew a coverage but we overthrew that one. Then we had the big run by Jacurri and called for a blindside block. We thought Rooster (Jaylan Knighton) put his shoulder in and turned his back on that guy to prevent that penalty from being called. Not good enough. They have a really good football team, you know? They’ve been where we’ve been before. They’ve built it up. I get it. We’ll be there, so…

On needing to win vs. Pitt to reach a bowl: I expect (the team) to do well. Get on the plane with pride, get right back to work. Wouldn’t expect anything else. If you can’t do that you shouldn’t even get on the plane, you know? It’s got to be the same thing and the same answer again and again and again. There’s no way around this, though. You have to work it into reality, okay?

On losing Corey Flagg and his injury status: He’s going to be reevaluated.
