Coach Mario Cristobal shared his thoughts afterward.
“The defense was getting after it and knocking people around all week, and today the offense countered in a bigtime way,” Cristobal said after the closed scrimmage during an in-house interview. “All sparked by a bigtime third down play that snowballed into more and more big plays.”
Cristobal also stressed that there was “good physicality on the line of scrimmage on both sides.”
“But today belonged to the offense,” he said.
Cristobal said in particular what he saw today was that the offense adjusted to the speed of the defense.

“Throughout the course of the week the defense created a lot of negative plays for the offense, really pressured the quarterback, did a good job stuffing our receivers and tight ends in coverage,” he said. “Today more separation, more air, they made more plays.
“Now, the defense did make their plays, too. But the offense had more than their share of successes.”
There were no specific details or stats provided, as is normal in fall scrimmage.
The team also did live special teams work today and will return to practice on Monday.
“Overall a very positive day,” Cristobal said.
