Miami Hurricanes hoops breaks into nation's top 15 with huge game looming vs. North Carolina
The Miami Hurricanes, riding four straight victories including a blowout of Duke, are moving up in the polls. To No. 15 for the A.P. (from No. 19) and up seven spots in the USA Today Coaches Poll to No. 13.
It’s the 10th straight week UM is in the top 25 of both polls. At 20-5 overall and 11-4 in ACC play, Miami is now set for a huge game at North Carolina this evening. Miami enters as a 5.5-point underdog.
The Canes are succeeding behind four players that average in double figures – Isaiah Wong 16.2, Jordan Miller 14.7, Norchad Omier 14.1 and Nijel Pack 12.6 – as well as a solid contribution from Wooga Poplar (7.8 points). The team is currently projected by CBS Sports as a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
And after UNC only four more regular season games remain – vs. Wake Forest (17-9 overall, 9-6 ACC), at Virginia Tech (15-10, 5-9), vs. Florida State (8-18, 6-9) and vs. Pittsburgh (18-7, 11-3). Miami is currently a half game out of first place in the ACC, trailing Pitt and Virginia.

Miami went from 425 points in the AP Poll all the way to 693, an increase of 268. In the Coaches Poll, Larrañaga’s team moved from 192 points to 360, good for 168-point improvement.
No. 7/6 Virginia and No. 23/22 NC State join Miami as ACC teams in the top 25. Pittsburgh is receiving votes in both polls, while Clemson and Duke garnered points in the Coaches Poll.
As for tonight’s game against North Carolina, which begins at 7 p.m.? The Tar Heels are 1-3 in their last four games, with losses to Pitt (65-64), Duke (63-57) and Wake Forest (92-85) before beating Clemson on Saturday, 91-71. UNC is led by Armando Bacot (17.6 PPG, 11.3 RPG), Caleb Love (16.8 PPG), RJ Davis (15.8 PPG, 3.1 APG) and Pete Nance (10.1 PPG).
