Off Weekend Official Visit, Miami Hurricanes Land 4-Star DE Asharri Charles in Key Recruiting Victory

Venice (Fla.) four-star 2026 EDGE Asharri Charles had an idea he liked Miami heading into this weekend’s Hurricanes official visit. And his time on campus sealed the deal.
He has now announced his commitment, a huge pickup as UM’s landed the nation’s No. 184 overall prospect and No. 23 EDGE in the cycle.
He chose Miami over Florida, FSU and Missouri. Louisville and Kentucky were others that had pushed hard in recent weeks.
“It’s just a great environment to be around,” he said of UM. “I love it here.”
A bigtime pass rushing weapon who is also extremely strong (360-pound power clean) and athletic (9-7 broad jump), Charles has tallied 39 tackles for loss and 24.5 sacks over the last two years.
A major factor in landing the 6-foot-2, 235-pound prospect? Defensive line coach Jason Taylor and coordinator Corey Hetherman.

Charles says Taylor’s message has always been simple: “To come home.”
“He’s built like me,” Charles said of Taylor. “He plays the same position as me, but he played it at a high level. …It definitely has a large impact, because he’s been up there (in the NFL) and played. He was the best of the best when he was playing, so the guy knows what he’s talking about.”
And he also said Hetherman’s system fits him perfectly.
“They play vertical, don’t have to think too much, and they like to set up one on ones for their best pass rushers,” Charles said.
CaneSport’s Take
We felt for a while that Charles was Miami’s to lose, so it’s not unexpected he is now on board with the Canes. And he’s the latest big piece in what is shaping up as a monster class for Mario Cristobal & Co. This is a guy with great burst and athelticism who can be extremely disruptive in the offensive backfield. He joins 3-star Tyson Bacon as the defensive linemen in the class so far.
