Although Houston (Texas) Dekaney 2028 cornerback Trey Finney has yet to start his freshman year of high school, that has not stopped several from around the country from offering the rising prospect. This month the Miami Hurricanes joined the growing list of schools to offer the Lone Star State athlete.

“I was very ecstatic to receive an offer from the University of Miami,” Finney told CaneSport. “This was very surprising. Miami is a great school, and I’ve been there a few times.”

Along with Miami, Finney already holds offers from Georgia, Missouri, Baylor, Arizona State, Arkansas, UTEP, Arkansas State, Marshall, and Nebraska.

“The University of Miami offered me because of my work ethic and skill set,” Finney explained. “I’ve always been consistent with working hard.”

When asked about the Hurricanes, Finney spoke extremely highly of Miami and the direction the program is headed under third-year head coach Mario Cristobal.

“The University of Miami has a long history of great football players.,” Finney said. “The current coaches are doing a great job with the program.”

Heading into his freshman campaign, Finney’s recruitment has already begun to take shape, and he knows what his focus will be when navigating through the recruiting process.

“When looking at a school, I look to see how well they develop talent,” Finney said.

In the coming months Finney, who has visited Coral Gables before, is looking to make his return to South Florida to get an in-depth look at the program. Finney is not yet ranked by any of the four major recruiting services.

“I’ve been there before, and I can’t wait to visit there again in the future,” Finney said.

CaneSport’s take

Finney is one of the first prospects in the 2028 class to earn an offer from the Hurricanes. Now, while that may seem years away, it won’t be long before the incoming high school freshmen are the talk of prep football.
