Four-star Georgia State transfer defensive lineman Thomas Gore is feeling good about Miami following an official visit to Coral Gables.
Gore, a 6-foot, 270-pound interior defensive lineman, visited Miami this weekend immediately following a visit to North Carolina. Last week Gore said UNC was one of three programs he was considering along with the Canes and Kansas State. He said he enjoyed his visit to Miami and plans on making his decision “soon” and that his visit to Miami has him considering the Canes more than other programs. He is a redshirt junior with two years of eligibility remaining.
“Definitely enjoyed this one (Miami visit) better (than his visit to North Carolina),” Gore said. “I felt like part of the family while I was down there.”
All in all, it was hard for Gore to say this visit was anything short of great.
“I would say my visit went great, and overall I getting to meet the full staff,” Gore said. “It was nice being able to feel the culture that Miami has and building. My highlights from the week were getting to see the facilities and dinner at (Mario) Cristobal’s house.”
Miami’s coaching staff hammered home that the Canes are building something special in South Beach and that they feel he is one of the missing pieces to their orange and green puzzle following a disappointing 5-7 season. Miami also hosted former four-star EDGE recruit and Texas A&M transfer Tunmise Adeleye earlier in the week, who could potentially join the Canes as another interior defensive lineman.

“(The staff) believes I’m a piece they need to improve production on the defensive line and bring more of a pass rush,” Gore said.
Gore’s visit came days after Miami landed four-star 2023 EDGE Rueben Bain and three weeks after the Canes flipped four-star EDGE Collins Acheampong from Michigan. Miami currently has three EDGEs and one interior defensive lineman committed in the 2023 class.
CaneSport’s Take
Fans unfamiliar with the Sun Belt may not have heard of Gore before Miami began recruiting the former high school three-star recruit, but he’s someone Canes fans should keep an eye on. He was one of the highest-graded interior defensive linemen by Pro Football Focus in 2021 and received All-Sun Belt honors twice, but his role was never as glamorous as some other linemen.
Gore is an interior game wrecker who eats double teams and keeps offensive linemen from working to the second level to block linebackers, which means he won’t always make the momentum-shifting play or a discombobulating play in the backfield, but he performs his role remarkably well. He would have more playmaking opportunities in Kevin Steele’s four-down linemen defense as opposed to Georgia State’s 3-4 and looks like a must-have addition to Miami’s interior defensive line.
