4-star 2024 DL Artavius Jones commits to Miami Hurricanes
Miami has landed its second defensive tackle recruit in the 2024 class in Blountstown (Fla.) four-star defensive lineman Artavius Jones, who announced his commitment to the Hurricanes. He joins Miami (Fla.) Columbus three-star defensive tackle Daylen Russell at the position.
Jones, the No. 166 prospect in the 2024 class and No. 21 defensive lineman in the On3 Industry Ranking, committed to Miami over Florida State, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee, among others. The 6-foot-4, 285-pound defensive tackle has been a consistent presence in the top 200 of the On300 and the On3 Industry Ranking this year, and he’s climbed more than 20 spots since the year began.
Jones was blown away on his visit to Miami March 25 and again on his June 22 official visit, which immediately placed the Hurricanes high on his radar. He quickly began considering Miami for an official visit following his first trip to Coral Gables, and the Hurricanes became the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine’s projected leader in mid-April. UCF and Mississippi State were also listed earlier this spring as programs with a chance to land the four-star, and UCF was a serious contender late.
The four-star prospect’s commitment to Miami comes at one of the Hurricanes’ most coveted positions in the 2024 class. Joshua Horton was Miami’s lone defensive tackle signee in the 2023 class before the Canes landed a pair of transfer defensive tackles in Georgia State’s Thomas Gore and Purdue’s Branson Deen.
Co-defensive line coaches Jason Taylor and Joe Salave’a and tight ends coach Cody Woodiel were both involved in Jones’ recruitment. He said following his visit to Coral Gables he was encouraged by Miami’s good weather, great campus and the feeling that head coach Mario Cristobal is building a special program at Miami. He heard fellow 2024 recruits tell him they liked the genuine feel of Miami’s coaching staff and loved the personal coaching advice he received from the staff.

He told CaneSport in a previous interview he loved the attention he received from Miami’s staff following just his second year playing football and his first year playing defense.
The Hurricanes are also in the running for On300 five-star defensive tackle David Stone and four-star defensive tackles Aydin Breland and Kamarion Franklin . Miami is also in hot pursuit of Five-Star Plus+ EDGE Colin Simmons and five-star EDGE Dylan Stewart among other highly-coveted names in the 2024 class.
CaneSport’s Take
Miami can’t land enough defensive tackles in this year’s class, and starting with an On300 four-star prospect like Jones is a fantastic start. Jones’ has immediately become one of the most valuable pieces Miami has added so far in this year’s class given the struggles the defensive line has had over the past several years, although the Canes would still like to land Scott and Stone as well.
