Preseason Coaches Poll released: Miami Hurricanes begin season in the top 20
The Miami Hurricanes’ football team hype is real.
Well, sort of.
The preseason Coaches Poll was released today, and Miami cracked the top 20.
At No. 19, to be exact.
There were two other ACC teams ranked ahead of the Canes: Florida State at No. 10 and Clemson at No. 14. Also breaking into the top 25 from the conference was NC State at No. 22. In a reflection of Miami’s relatively easy schedule, the team only faces one team in the top 25, and that’s FSU at home Oct. 26. Clemson and NC State are not on this year’s schedule.
The next highest rated team Miami will face is Louisville (95 votes), which was essentially No. 27 when you consider the “others receiving votes” category. That game is on the road for the Canes Oct. 19.

One down the list is Virginia Tech (95 votes) at No. 28, with that game set for Sept. 27 at Hard Rock Stadium. The Florida Gators also make an appearance with 11 votes at No. 38 – that, of course, is the season opener in Gainesville. And Syracuse got a single vote, with the Canes playing at the Orange in the regular season finale Nov. 30.
So, on paper based on the polling, only one team is ahead of the Canes that’s on the schedule.
Would you take an 11-1 season?
Also of note: Georgia topped the list with Ohio State second and Mario Cristobal’s former team, Oregon, No. 3.
Stay tuned.
