Although Pembroke Pines (Fla.) West Broward 2028 cornerback A’mir Sears may only be midway through his freshman year, that has not stopped a handful of programs from offering the rising talent, including the Miami Hurricanes.

Earlier this summer, the Canes were the first program to offer Sears, who has since added offers from LSU, Florida State, Texas A&M, Washington, and USF.

“With me being from South Florida, that’s big,” Sears told CaneSport. “Getting that first offer from your hometown is major.”

Before receiving his offer from Miami, the 6-foot-1, 160-pounder trained alongside Hurricanes freshman defensive back OJ Frederique. Early in his career, Frederique has earned substantial playing time, which is no surprise to Sears.

“Seeing guys I know and where I’m from like OJ Frederique come in and make an impact is big,” Sears said. “I used to workout with OJ before he went to UM. He performed well during summer workouts, and he never took a rep off or anything. When I saw that, he went in there and competed and got a starting job that was major. That really opened my eyes about the school.”

Along with Frederique, Sears has been pleased to see how the entire Miami program has performed this year and believes the best has yet to come.

“I really feel like they can do damage in the conference they’re in right now,” Sears said. “I think they can go undefeated because Cam Ward is holding it down for them.”

Despite having a handful of Power Four programs on his offer sheet already, Sears understands there is still work to be done. Six games into his freshman year, Sears has racked up 27 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, and one interception.

“If you ball, they will come find you for sure,” Sears said. “I’m only a freshman, so I’ve got a lot more work to do, and I’m not done yet.”

Nevertheless, he is enjoying the early stages of his recruiting process and is looking forward to building his relationship with Miami and many other coaching staffs around the country in the coming years.

“I really will be looking for a program that can develop me,” Sears said. “Also somewhere I could get on the field early and just play.”

CaneSport’s take

We got our eyes on Sears recently, and it’s easy to see why programs have not hesitated to offer the freshman prospect, including Miami. Sears has the makings of a lockdown corner thanks to his length and speed. While he may only be a freshman, Sears is a name to know in the 2028 class.
