While it perhaps wasn’t the most extensive official visit list this weekend for Miami, it essentially turned into a massive unofficial visit weekend.

Technically, the only official visitors from Class of 2023 recruits on Miam’s campus this weekend were RB Mark Fletcher (UM-UF battle with Miami believed to be leading off the visit) and S Conrad Hussey (Penn State commit who Miami’s now positioned well with) along with commits Rueben Bain, Joshua Horton, Antione Jackson, Bobby Washington and Robby Washington.

But, in a sign of how invested these commits are in the future, almost all the rest of the class came down unofficially. CaneSport confirmed that unofficial committed visitors that were on campus this weekend were Collins Acheampong, Malik Bryant, Ray Ray Joseph, Tommy Kinsler, Samson Okunlola, Robert Stafford, Frankie Tinilau, Jayden Wayne, Emory Williams and Riley Williams.

The ones that didn’t make it were Raul Aguirre, Christopher Johnson, Francis Mauigoa, Cormani McClain, Reid Mikeska, Marcellius Pulliam, Kaleb Spencer and Antonio Tripp.

For Carver, Joseph and Emory Williams, it was more than just a visit … it was also a workout.

Carver called Emory prior to the visit to see if he should pack his cleats.

“I’m packing mine!” Emory said.

So the duo worked out for an hour-and-a-half on a local field Saturday, then woke up at 7:30 a.m. this morning for a second hour-and-a-half workout and this time were joined by Joseph.

“This was the first time we’ve thrown together,” Carver said. “He (Williams) can sling it, has a great arm, is on point. And Ray Ray has lighting speed, is real quick. We went through basic reps, were catching everything, on point with everything.”

Recruits working out on their own during visits … that’s the kind of work ethic Mario Cristobal wants in his team, the kind of culture he’s looking to build. Can anyone who closely follows recruiting recall these kinds of workouts on visits, including waking up early on a Sunday morning to get the work in prior to going into meet with coaches and hours before leaving town for home?

“When we had dinner with Ray Ray last night he wanted to come work out too,” Carver says.

Carver adds of all the commits visiting that “It shows we all wanted to be around each other again, and it’s great to solidify those relationships.”

Carver also said that Kinsler and Bryant, who continue to get pushed by Florida, “are solid.”

He also spent time with Fletcher and says “He’d be a big get, and I know he enjoyed it.”

A highlight for the visitors? Last night the recruits converged on Mario Cristobal’s house to hang out and watch the Miami Dolphins game. When they walked into the backyard they were greeted by a giant “U” ice sculpture.

“There was hella food also, it was crazy,” Tinilau told CaneSport. “I came over because I saw the boys were in town so I came by to stay what’s up, hang out. We just talked, were chopping it up.”

CaneSport’s take

It says a lot that this many commits were able to make it, even paying their own way unofficially to be part of the weekend. You can see the culture Mario Cristobal  wants to build through this recruiting class, and perhaps it was never better personified than having three of the commitments wake up early on Sunday morning after a late Saturday at Cristobal’s house to work on their game together at a local field.
