Top-200 EDGE Herbert Scroggins signs with Miami Hurricanes: 'I’ve got a bright future ahead, and I want to be coached by the greatest'
Four-star top-200 EDGE Herbert Scroggins III has more than established himself as one of the country’s best – and one of the Hurricanes’ most excited signees.
Yes, he is now official.
Scroggins, the No. 193 overall prospect and No. 20 EDGE in the On300, officially signed today to formally join Miami’s 2025 class after remaining committed to the Hurricanes since late June. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound prospect finished the regular season as Georgia’s sacks leader and a consensus four-star recruit.
Scroggins has lined up as an outside linebacker, stand-up EDGE and a traditional defensive end. His relationship with Jason Taylor and enthusiasm about the upward trend of Miami’s program direction both played factors in his commitment. He remained solid with Miami throughout the fall.
“Tell them I’m home,” Scroggins said after committing. “When that third and long comes, you already know I’m going to be back there getting that sack.”
Auburn was once viewed as the team to beat in his recruitment before Miami made a significant impression on his official visit. He said his June trip to Miami helped push the Canes over the top.
“It played a big impact,” Scroggins said after his commitment. “Heading into that Tuesday, I was leaning towards Auburn more. But when I took the official visit down to Miami, we really hit. I connected with the coaches and everybody.”

Scroggins’ conversation with Taylor and head coach Mario Cristobal after his official visit effectively sealed the deal. There was never a massive threat to flip him away from the Hurricanes, although Auburn, Alabama and Georgia Tech did continue communicating for some time. But Scroggins remained solid throughout.
“In two months I’m going to be down here,” Scroggins said after his September visit for Miami’s game against Ball State. “My decision stands. I’m committed here, and I’m going to stay committed here. The people, the culture and the players, man. The people here are different than everyday people you see in the world. That’s why I’m still here. I’ve got a bright future ahead, and I want to be coached by the greatest.”
Scroggins will be a January enrollee. He previously said he “can’t wait” to arrive in Coral Gables next year.
CaneSport’s Take
We’ve remained particularly high on Scroggins since his commitment and wrote Hurricane fans should buy stock in his potential, which we still believe. Scroggins is another huge out-of-state pickup for Miami.
