The Miami Hurricanes are in need of cornerbacks and one of their top targets from the 2022 class made himself available Thursday when Georgia CB Jaheim Singletary, a freshman from Jacksonville, entered the transfer portal.

Sources told CaneSport Friday that Miami very quickly has risen to the top of Singletary’s target list and that Singletary could visit Miami as soon as this weekend. The current transfer portal window closes on January 18.

The cornerback position at Georgia is simply loaded right now with Kamari Lassiter, Daylen Everette, Julien Humphrey and Nyland Green all still there and five more top shelf defensive backs in the 2023 signing class about to join the fray including four-stars A.J. Harris, Chris Peal, Daniel Harris, and Justyn Rhett along with three-star Kyron Jones, who is listed as a running back.

Singletary appeared in two games for Georgia in 2022 but did not make a tackle.

Combine the crowd at Georgia with the NIL opportunities at Miami and it makes sense for Singletary to explore his possibilities with the Hurricanes.

At just under 6-foot-3 and 175 pounds, Singletary finished the 2022 recruiting cycle ranked as the nation’s No. 27 overall prospect. He was the No. 4 cornerback in the country as well as the No. 5 player in Florida, all according to the industry-generated, equally weighted On3 Consensus.

His On3 scouting report describes him as a tall, lean ball-hawking cornerback who uses his 6-foot-2.5 stature, 33-inch arms and bouncy athleticism to make plays on the ball at a high rate. He looks like a wide receiver playing corner when the ball is in the air with his ability to extend and high-point and plays with physicality both as a run defender and in press situations.”
