BREAKING: 2023 three-star QB Sam Leavitt has signed with Michigan State
2023 Signing Day
2023 Portland (OR) West Linn three-star QB Sam Leavitt has signed with Michigan State. Leavitt, standing at 6-foot-2, 195-pounds, originally committed to the Washington State back in July. Following a weekend official visit, Michigan State flipped the three-star on December 15, 2022. Leavitt held additional offers from Washington, Florida State, and Arizona. The 2023 On3 Consensus three-star is ranked No. 492 nationally, the No. 29 quarterback, and the No. 2 player in the state of Oregon.
On3 has a more favorable outlook on Leavitt rating the quarterback a four-star, No. 141 nationally, the No. 10 quarterback, and the No. 1 player in the state of Oregon.
“What made (MSU) the place was the coaching staff and the culture and the vibe they give off,” Leavitt told SpartanMag.com. ”The ultimate goal is to win a natty and that’s exactly what I’m trying to do.”
Scouting Summary
Pure passer who looks like one of the top arm talents and playmakers in the deep 2023 quarterback cycle. Has a stout frame, measuring at 6-foot-2, 197 pounds with a 9.5-inch hand prior to his senior season. Also registers as a good athlete, running a 4.67 second 40-yard dash and 4.38 second short shuttle. A senior riser who turned in a fantastic final season after transferring high schools. Led his team to a state title, while completing 69.1 percent of his passes for over 3,000 yards (a stellar 12.6 yards per attempt) and 36 touchdowns against five interceptions. Pairs that accurate, efficient statistical profile with considerable arm talent. Makes eye-popping throws with regularity, including some of the best individual plays we’ve seen from a 2023 signal caller. Has outstanding natural passing mechanics with quick, fluid arm action. Generates considerable velocity on his throws to all levels. Can drive and layer the football from off-platform. Plays with natural field vision and throws receivers open. Looks to be a loose, coordinated athlete. Shows some playmaking ability with his feet, rushing for 713 yards and eight touchdowns, including a big game on the ground in the state championship game. Fares well against the pass rush and shows creativity both as a passer and runner. Has some football bloodlines as his father was a linebacker at BYU and his older brother, Dallin Leavitt, is a safety with the Green Bay Packers.

Reminds Us Of
Sam Leavitt’s live arm, coordinated movements and ability to make plays both from inside the pocket and out of structure remind us of Andy Dalton. Leavitt was a more efficient passer at the high school level while playing against weaker competition than Dalton.
NIL Valuation
Leavitt currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $18.8k. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
