2024 Missouri LB passing up scholarship offers to walk-on at Michigan State
Michigan State added another addition to the class of 2024, this time in the form of a preferred walk-on commitment from Carter Enyard, of St. Louis (MO) Country Day High School. Enyard announced his commitment via social media on Dec. 19.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker had been committed to a scholarship offer from Kent State since June of 2023. He also holds scholarship offers from UNLV, Bucknell, and Western Illinois. Enyard is ranked a three-star, the No. 2042 overall recruit in the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings. He is also ranked the No. 195 linebacker, and the No. 27 recruit in Missouri.
The Missouri linebacker had 75 tackles, 20 tackles for a loss, and 10 sacks in 2023. Enyard was named All-State in the class five division, along with three-time all-district and three-time all conference selections. You can find his senior highlights here.
Enyard will take the walk-on route in East Lansing, under head coach Jonathan Smith who took a similar route as walk-on quarterback during his playing days at Oregon State. Smith has preached equal opportunity since arriving at Michigan State.
“I’m very familiar with Coach Smith’s story as a walk-on to starter and how walk-on guys at his last stop received an equal opportunity to compete,” Enyard told SpartanMag.com. ”It is something that he and I discussed briefly and it strengthened my resolve that this is the right place for me. A place where I can compete and they develop players.

“Coach Rossi has also had a lot of success developing players and getting the best out of walk-ons. I’m excited to be part of this program and I’m excited for all of the challenges to come.”
As strong walk-on addition, Enyard will join a linebacker room containing Wisconsin transfer Jordan Turner (one year of eligibility), along with seniors Darius Snow and Cal Haladay, and true freshman Jordan Hall as the only returning key contributors.
Michigan State is in strong shape to sign four-star in-state linebacker Brady Pretzlaff, of Gaylord (Mich.) on Dec. 20, as the former Minnesota commit is set to announce his decision on signing day. Spartan LB commitment Jadyn Walker will wait until the February period to sign, fresh off an official visit to USC over the weekend of Dec. 15.
