Clinton Township (MI) DE Shamar Pressley talks first visit to MSU
During the last junior day event of the month, Michigan State coaches played host to a large group of unofficial visitors on Jan. 28. Class of 2024 defensive end Shamar Riser-Pressley made the trip to East Lansing from Clinton Township (MI).
The 6-foot-6, 220-pound edge made his first visit to Michigan State. Riser-Pressley spent most of his time with defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Scottie Hazelton.
“It was very fun getting to look around the Michigan State campus and getting to meet all of their amazing coaches,” Pressley said. “I spent a lot of time with Coach Hazelton getting to learn about Michigan State’s defense.”
Although it was a first impression, Hazelton made a strong one on Pressley.
“That was my first time meeting everyone on the coaching staff,” Pressley said of Hazelton. “He’s a very energetic coach and he’s a funny person but serious at the same time. He’s definitely a good person and was nice to be around.”
While Hazelton explained the defense, Pressley could see himself fitting into the scheme.
“Coach didn’t say anything personally about my game but the way he described the defense I could definitely see myself playing both linebacker and defensive end in that defense,” Pressley said.
After his introduction with the coaches, the recruits toured campus, took photos, and even talked some name, images, and likeness.
“I got to take a little tour of the campus, even the field,” Pressley said. “I got to learn about the NIL at MSU and I even got to take pictures in their jerseys.”
Growing up in the state of Michigan, Pressley has grown well aware of the Spartans and took pride in the photoshoot.

“It was good this was my first visit so being able to see all of the things you see on TV, in person, is just mind blowing,” Pressley said. “I really did love the campus and every second on it.”
Pressley also toured the future facilities, as the coaches walked through a virtual reality your of the Tom Izzo Football building.
“They actually had a virtual reality walk through of what the facility will look like after they are done with the construction,” Pressley said. “It looked amazing, a lot of new things being added, and a lot of new training equipment.”
As for other visits, Pressley is currently putting together a list of visits for the spring. Schools continue to invite him to camps and junior days.
“As of righht now, I don’t have any set in stone. I do definitely have some schools waiting to see me this spring,” Pressley said. “I will definitely be going to hit up Illinois this spring. Toledo as well, but that’s all I know of right now.”
Pressley currently holds two offers from Central Michigan along with Miami (OH). According to On3, he ranks the No. 31 EDGE in the country. He is also ranked the No. 10 recruit in Michigan for the 2024 class.
