Former Michigan State starting quarterback Noah Kim has found a new home. Kim, who started the first five games of the 2023 season for the Spartans before being replaced by Katin Houser, is headed to Coastal Carolina.

Kim announced his transfer destination in a post on X Tuesday morning.

Kim averaged 218.5 yards passing in five starts for Michigan State in 2023. He totaled 1,090 yards with six touchdown passes and six interceptions.

A back-up during his first three seasons at Michigan State, Kim found himself as the frontrunner for a starting job after Payton Thorne surprised many by entering the NCAA transfer portal last spring before landing at Auburn. With Thorne no longer in the program, Kim beat out Houser, a redshirt freshman, and true freshman Sam Leavitt for the starting job last August.

Kim won his first two games as a starter for Michigan State, completing 36-of-53 (67 percent) passes for 572 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions. He was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week following a Week 2 win over Richmond in which he completed better than 80 percent of his throws and totaled a season-high three touchdown passes.

His performance against Richmond, however, was not a portend of future success. One week later, Kim struggled at home against Washington. He completed just 12-of-31 passes for 136 yards without a touchdown. He threw one interception in that game.

In his final three games as a starter, Kim completed 55-of-107 passes (51 percent) for 519 yards and one touchdown with five interceptions.

Houser replaced Kim as the starting quarterback for Michigan State after Kim threw three interceptions in a loss at Iowa. Kim did not play again for the Spartans after that game.

One week after Iowa, Michigan State interim head coach Harlon Barnett turned over the starting job to Houser in a road game at Rutgers. Kim dressed for that game but did not participate in warm-ups. During his post-game press conference, Barnett indicated that Kim was dealing with an undisclosed injury.

Kim was one of three Michigan State quarterbacks to enter the portal after the 2023 season. His commitment to Coastal Carolina comes one day after Leavitt announced his decision to play for Arizona State. Houser has yet to announce a transfer destination.

A member of Mark Dantonio’s final recruiting class in 2019, Kim signed with Michigan State as a late-rising prospect during his senior year at Westfield High in Virginia. Kim chose the Spartans over Virginia Tech and several FCS programs. Though undersized, Kim had a phenomenal three-year run as varsity starter, totaling a 42-2 record.

Michigan State currently has no scholarship quarterbacks in the program.
