Four-star wide receiver Nick Marsh decommits from Michigan State
As Michigan State turns its recruiting focus to the 2024 class, the Spartans’ own recruiting class took a big blow on Tuesday, losing four-star commitment Nick Marsh from the fold. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound wide receiver earned a Michigan State offer after impressing as a freshman during the 2021 state championships at Ford Field, and has been viewed as a future Spartan for several months.
Marsh, a senior at River Rouge (Mich.) High School, had been committed to the Spartans since July of 2022, but announced his decommitment from Michigan State via twitter on Tuesday. Marsh didn’t take visits to other schools during his time as a commitment. That’s about to change.
“Michigan State will still be one of my top choices,” Marsh said at the end of his announcement on Tuesday. He also thanked Spartan wide receiver coach Courtney Hawkins.
THE TAKEAWAY
It is rare for a prospect to decommit, and then re-commit to the same program, but the Spartans will continue to make Marsh a top target.
His other offers include Michigan, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Penn State, UCLA, and more. Marsh previously told On3.com he had been hearing from Clemson and Alabama as well.
Marsh is a four-star prospect, ranked the No. 56 overall prospect, the No. 10 wide receiver in the 2024 cycle, and the No. 2 recruit in Michigan, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

The Spartans are now down to two commitments in their 2024 class: four-star cornerbacks Jamari Howard of Hialeah (FL) and Jaylen Thompson of Murfreesboro (TN). Howard is planning to take spring visits to Florida and Florida State, as Thompson still seems locked in with the Spartans.
