Michigan State landed yet another transfer portal prospect on Dec. 20, when former Florida State defensive lineman Jarret Jackson announced his commitment to the Spartans. Jackson took an official visit to Michigan State last weekend, Dec. 16-18.

Jackson announced his commitment via social media.  He committed to Michigan State over portal offers from Miami (Fla.), Rutgers, and more.

The 6-foot-6, 300-pound defensive tackle spent three seasons of eligibility in Tallahassee, leaving himself with one year remaining in East Lansing. When Jackson entered the portal on Dec. 5, Michigan State and defensive line coach Marco Coleman began reaching out to him. Jackson and Coleman had no previous connection, but clicked immediately resulting in an official visit.

“The coaching staff has showed great interest and I feel like it was a place that I had to visit to get a better feel for,” Jackson told SpartanMag.com. “Coach (Coleman) has great energy. A great vibe. Everything up to this point has been nothing but real. I appreciate that from him. Overall he is a great coach with a lot of knowledge and experience to gain from.”

Coleman is looking to the portal for depth along the defensive line after the departures of Jacob Slade, Jalen Hunt, Dashaun Mallory, and Chase Carter.
