Michigan State adds commitment from 2025 defensive end Cal Thrush
Michigan State has received a commitment from class of 2025 defensive end Cal Thrush, of Columbus (Ohio) Upper Arlington High School. He announced his commitment via social media on June 26. Thrush (6-4, 230) visited East Lansing for an official visit over the weekend of June 14.
Thrush took multiple unofficial visits to East Lansing as well, with the first coming during the winter for Jonathan Smith’s first Junior Day event. Thrush also visited Michigan State for a practice in the spring.
The defensive end camped with Ohio State earlier this month. He decided to shut down his recruitment following the camp. Thrush is not yet ranked in the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings. He holds just one other Power Four offer from Cincinnati. The trip to East Lansing was the only official visit he took during the month of June.
Thursh represents Michigan State’s first 2025 commitment at the defensive end position. He also became the Spartans’ first defensive line commitment in the class.

During his June 14 official visit, Thrush developed close relationships with fellow 2025 Spartan defensive targets in Frankenmuth (Mich.) defensive tackle Derrick Simmons and West Chester (Ohio) linebacker Grant Beerman. I have placed On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine picks for Michigan State to land both Beerman and Simmons, and still feel strongly about both predictions ahead of expected nearing decisions.
Michigan State now holds 13 commitments in its 2025 class. California quarterback Leo Hannan, California offensive lineman Drew Nichols, Ohio wide receiver Braylon Collier, Texas receiver Charles Taplin, Wisconsin tight end Emmett Bork, along with in-state tight end Jayden Savoury, in-state offensive tackle Justin Bell, and in-state running back Jace Clarizio round out the class on the offensive side of the ball.
In-state linebackers Charles White and DiMari Malone, along with Florida defensive back George Mullins and Maryland cornerback Aydan West join Thrush on the defensive side of the ball.
