Michigan State adds transfer cornerback Terry Roberts from Iowa, via Miami
East Lansing, Mich. – Last week, Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker hinted that the Spartans were on the verge of welcoming a new cornerback transfer into the program. Now, there is verification.
SpartanMag has confirmed that Iowa transfer Terry Roberts has joined the Michigan State football program. Roberts (5-10, 171, Sr., Erie, Pa.) spent five years as a scholarship player at Iowa from 2018 to 2022. He transferred to Miami in January and was with the Hurricanes’ program during spring football, and then re-entered the portal in late May.
The graduate transfer has one year of eligibility remaining as a COVID sixth-year senior.
Roberts started three games at Iowa in 2022 and one in 2021. Both seasons were shortened by injury.
In 2022, he played in five games, starting against Iowa State, Nevada and Illinois. He missed the final eight games due to injury.
He had six tackles and an interception in a 10-7 loss to Iowa State.
For the season, he was targeted 17 times and had four pass break-ups.
In 2021, he had one start against Purdue and played in eight games. He missed the last six games due to an injury. Roberts finished the year with 14 tackles (12 solos), one interception and one pass break-up.

In four seasons at Iowa, he appeared in 33 games, recording 47 tackles with two interceptions and seven pass break-ups.
Roberts is participating in summer workouts with the Spartans and appeared in an official Instagram video released by the program on Thursday.
Roberts brings experience to the Michigan State defensive backfield and a measure of competitive depth to a cornerback room which will include Charles Brantley as a returning starter, along with Dillon Tatum and Marqui Lowery.
