Michigan State adds former Nebraska wide receiver Alante Brown
East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State dipped back into the transfer portal on Friday, landing a commitment from Nebraska wide receiver transfer Alante Brown.
The one-time Michigan State commit announced he was entering the portal on April 15. Brown, a junior, has two years of eligibility remaining after the NCAA granted an extra year of eligibility following the 2020 COVID-shortened season.
Michigan State offered Brown on April 18, while the wide receiver was on campus for a visit, just a few days after entering the portal.
The 5-foot-11, 190-pound wide receiver played three seasons for the Cornhuskers, tallying 22 receptions for 262 yards. Brown has also shown flashes as a kick returner with 16 attempts for 284 yards in his three seasons.
Brown is a former three-star recruit and was the No. 675 overall player in the nation from the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Brown initially committed to Michigan State in June of 2018. The former three-star then de-committed from the Spartans in January of 2019 before eventually signing with the Cornhuskers.

Michigan State will head into its 2023 football season with a wide receiver group headlined by redshirt senior Tre Mosley. The Spartans will need to replace the production of Jayden Reed and junior Keon Coleman who announced his transfer to Florida State on May 17.
In addition to Alante Brown, senior Montorie Foster, whose 2022 season was hampered by injuries, looks to be the early candidate for the third wide receiver spot following the completion of spring practice. 6-foot-4, 218-pound redshirt junior Christian Fitzpatrick will also be vying for a role.
The Spartans also have a trio of underclassmen who will be pushing for more reps this fall. Sophomore Tyrell Henry looked promising this spring and will compete for both kick return and punt return duties. Redshirt freshmen Jaron Glover and Antonio Gates Jr. are continuing to develop and could push their way into the playing group.
Promising 2023 Michigan State three-star wide receiver signee Aziah Johnson will join the Spartans in August as a summer enrollee.
