Michigan State CB Caleb Coley enters transfer portal

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State redshirt junior cornerback Caleb Coley has entered the transfer portal as a grad transfer, per On3’s Pete Nakos. The spring transfer window officially opens April 16, but grad transfers can enter at any point.
Coley (6-0, 182) played three seasons at Michigan State. He appeared in 10 career games for the Spartans, including two starts.
Coley, a Warner Robins, Ga., native, played in one game for Michigan State last fall. He missed the first nine games of the season due to injury before starting against Illinois in the 10th game of the year. He became injured again in that game and proceeded to miss the final two weeks of the season. Coley logged one tackle in 22 snaps against the Fighting Illini.
Coley appeared in six games – including one start – as a redshirt freshman in 2023. He missed the first four games of the season due to injury. Coley recorded four tackles that year. He played 19 snaps on defense and 28 on special teams.
Coley played in three games as a freshman in 2022 to preserve his redshirt. He logged five defensive snaps and contributed on special teams.

A former three-star recruit out of Houston County (Ga.) High School, Coley was the No. 567 player in the 2022 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He also was the No. 55 cornerback and No. 56 player from Georgia in his class.
Michigan State overhauled its cornerback room this offseason, bringing in three transfers at the position during the winter portal window: Joshua Eaton (Texas State), NiJhay Burt (Eastern Illinois) and Malcolm Bell (Connecticut). The Spartans also signed three high school cornerback recruits: three-star Aydan West, three-star George Mullins and three-star Terrence Edwards.
Chance Rucker, Jeremiah Hughes, Ade Willie, Andrew Brinson and Keshawn Williams return at the position. Dillon Tatum, a starter who missed nearly all of last season with injury, also has experience at the position, though he will focus his time on safety and nickel back this year.
Michigan State lost starting cornerback Charles Brantley (Miami) and deep reserve Philipp Davis (Marshall) to the portal in the winter.
The spring transfer window will close on April 25.
