Derrick Harmon, six other Michigan State players announce portal entries over last 24 hours
East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Derrick Harmon will enter the transfer portal, he announced via social media on Wednesday. Harmon will have two years of eligibility remaining.
The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Harmon totaled 69 tackles and 3.5 sacks in three seasons at Michigan State. This fall, Harmon recorded 40 tackles and 1.5 sacks as a consistent option in the defensive tackle rotation.
Harmon played in all 12 games last season as a redshirt freshman. He started five of them. The Detroit native played in four games in 2021 to preserve his redshirt.
A former three-star prospect, Harmon committed to Michigan State in April 2020 as part of Mel Tucker’s first recruiting class. Harmon was the No. 78-ranked defensive line recruit in the 2021 class and the No. 30 player from Michigan, per the On3 Industry Rankings.
He committed to Michigan State over offers from Mississippi, Purdue and Memphis, among others.
Six other Michigan State players enter portal over last 24 hours
Harmon joins wide receiver Christian Fitzpatrick, wide receiver Tyrell Henry, wide receiver Jaron Glover, offensive guard Geno VanDeMark, punter Michael O’Shaughnessy and quarterback Noah Kim as Spartans who have announced their intentions to enter the portal since Tuesday.

Henry and Glover, both three-star recruits, committed to Michigan State as part of its 2022 class. They both flashed this season as second-year wide receivers. Henry also returned punts and kickoffs for Michigan State this fall.
Glover, a redshirt freshman, has three seasons of eligibility remaining. Henry, a sophomore, has two.

Like Harmon, VanDeMark committed to Michigan State as part of its 2021 class. He split time with Kevin Wigenton at right guard this fall while dealing with nagging injuries. Wigenton announced his intention to enter the portal on Monday.
VanDeMark, a redshirt sophomore, has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Fitzpatrick transferred from Louisville to Michigan State in May 2021. He totaled 252 yards and one touchdown on 18 receptions this fall as a redshirt junior. Like Kim, Fitzpatrick is officially in the portal as a graduate transfer.
O’Shaughnessy repped behind Ryan Eckley at punter this fall after transferring in from Ohio State. He punted 14 times for an average of 40.1 yards per punt.
The transfer portal will officially open on Dec. 4 for non-graduate transfers. Players who enter the portal have the opportunity to withdraw if they wish to return to their original school.
