The first domino of Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo’s 2025 class fell when four-star small forward Jordan Scott, of Reston (Va.) South Lakes High School, committed to the Spartans on Thursday. Scott announced his commitment via social media.

Scott (6-7, 165) is the No. 66 recruit in the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings. He is also the No. 14 small forward and the No. 3 player from Virginia.

Scott committed to Michigan State fresh off an official visit to East Lansing, which occurred over the weekend of Oct. 5. Scott took in the program’s annual Midnight Madness and Izzone Campout events that Friday.

Scott also took official visits to Maryland and Virginia Tech, his two other finalists. In addition to his top three choices, Scott also received offers from Florida State, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State and Miami, among others.

Izzo and various Michigan State assistants made several in-home visits with Scott, the most recent of which came in early September. Scott also made multiple trips to East Lansing during his recruitment. Izzo and company began prioritizing Scott during his sophomore year of high school.

“I have an excellent relationship with Coach Izzo, (Doug) Wojcik and (Jon) Borovich,” Scott previously told On3. “I went up there on a few unofficials in the past. I got to see campus and I really liked it. I got to see them play Maryland at Maryland live, which was a very close game. They have a great basketball culture and energy from the first guy to the last on the bench, and obviously a hall of fame head coach.”

Scott comes from strong basketball bloodlines. His mother, Christy Winter-Scott, is a women’s college basketball analyst for ESPN and the Big Ten Network. She played at Maryland from 1986-90, where she scored 1,679 career points, good for second-most in program history. Scott’s father, Jerome, played at Miami from 1988-91. He scored over 1,000 collegiate points.
