EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State redshirt junior edge Anthony Jones entered the transfer portal on Wednesday, SpartanMag has learned. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Last season was Jones’ first at Michigan State. He recorded a career-high 25 tackles (3.5 for a loss) and two sacks in 12 games as a redshirt sophomore last fall. Jones (6-4, 252) featured as a reserve rush end for Michigan State, playing behind now-graduated senior Khris Bogle.

Jones spent his redshirt freshman season at Indiana, where he recorded 12 tackles (0.5 for a loss) in 12 games, four of which were starts. He followed his position coach, Chad Wilt, from Indiana to Michigan State following the 2023 season.

Jones redshirted his freshman season at Oregon. The Las Vegas native totaled one tackle in two appearances that year.

A former three-star recruit out of Henderson (Nev.) Liberty High School, Jones was the No. 570 recruit in the 2022 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He also was the No. 21 athlete prospect and No. 8 player from Nevada in his class.

With Bogle having graduated and Avery Dunn having transferred, Jones had a chance to solidify himself as the starter at the rush end spot for Michigan State this fall. The Spartans returned redshirt juniors Tyler Gillison and James Schott, as well as redshirt freshman walk-on Stone Chaney, at the position. They also brought in Air Force transfer David Santiago and Wisconsin transfer Anelu Lafaele.

Michigan State will look to bring in rush end reinforcements during the spring transfer window. SpartanMag confirmed on Wednesday that the Spartans will host a transfer edge rusher starting Saturday.

In the meantime, the Spartans have worked to improve their pass rush after recording the third-fewest sacks in the Big Ten (19) last season. They failed to record a sack in six straight games from late September to mid-November.

Jones becomes the fourth Michigan State player to enter the portal during the spring transfer window, joining cornerback Caleb Coley, walk-on defensive back DJ Kennard and walk-on long snapper Jack Carson Wentz.

Michigan State will conclude spring practice on Saturday. The spring transfer window opened on Wednesday and will close on April 25.
