Michigan State gets commitment from TCU cornerback transfer Kee'Yon Stewart
Michigan State added another cornerback to its defensive backfield with the transfer commitment of TCU junior Kee’Yon Stewart (6-0, 185), who played 13 games in a back-up role for the Horned Frogs in 2022.
Stewart showed himself to be a productive back-up when he wasn’t injured. Game reps, however, were difficult to come by for Stewart playing behind Jim Thorpe Award Winner Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson and All-Big XII standout Josh Newton.
Stewart was credited with three passes defended as a junior in 2022. He also had a forced fumble against Iowa State.
Stewart announced his commitment via social media.
Injuries have been a prevailing theme for Stewart to this point in his collegiate career.
Stewart saw action in nine games as a true freshman in 2019, making six starts. He was back on the field in the playing rotation as a sophomore corner before suffering a season-ending injury five games into the 2020 season. Injury also prevented Stewart from making a bigger impact in 2021, as he missed the first eight games of the 2021 season.
During his time at TCU, Stewart totaled 38 tackles in 30 career games with 10 passes defended, one interception, and one forced fumble.
Stewart’s commitment to Michigan State came out of the blue. In fact. he made his commitment not long after indicating to SpartanMag that he was considering taking an official visit. He did take that visit, after all, and he committed to Michigan State during his official visit this weekend.
Stewart initially signed with TCU as a three-star prospect ranked in the Top 100 in the talent-rich state of Texas by each of the major recruiting indexes in 2019. Washington, Utah, Texas Tech, and Syracuse were among the programs that offered Stewart as a high school senior.

Michigan State has had limited success with portal corners to this point in Mel Tucker era. Georgia transfer Ameer Speed started 11 games at corner for the Michigan State and was selected in the sixth-round of the NFL Draft by the New England Patriots.
Be that as it may, Speed made a minimal contribution to the Michigan State secondary at the cornerback position. The Spartans can only hope that Stewart is a better fit in the Michigan State secondary.
Stewart joining the Michigan State program as portal transfer comes days after starting corner Charles Brantley withdrew his name from the NCAA Transfer portal, opting to play his junior season in East Lansing.
Brantley and sophomore Dillon Tatum remain the favorites to win starting jobs at corner for Michigan State in 2023, with Louisville transfer and third-year Spartan Marqui Lowery also in the picture, along with redshirt-freshman Caleb Coley
