EAST LANSING, Mich. – Former Michigan State guard Tre Holloman announced on Sunday that he will transfer to North Carolina State. He has one season of eligibility remaining.

Holloman (6-2, 185) entered the transfer portal on April 1 after playing three seasons at Michigan State. On3’s Pete Nakos reported on April 7 that the junior guard would take visits to North Carolina State, North Carolina, Villanova and Baylor.

Holloman was a four-star transfer prospect, per the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings. He was the No. 62 player and No. 11 point guard in the portal.

Holloman averaged 9.1 points and 3.7 assists per game on 37.3 percent shooting (32.9 percent from three) this season. He averaged a career-high 23.1 minutes per game.

A team captain, Holloman briefly held a starting role before handing it over to freshman guard Jase Richardson in early February. Holloman, a Minneapolis native, made 37 appearances for Michigan State this season, including 16 starts.

Holloman averaged 5.7 points and 2.4 assists on 47.1 shooting (42.5 percent from three) in 19.7 minutes per game as a sophomore. He started two of his 35 appearances for Michigan State that season. The season prior, Holloman averaged 1.3 points and 0.9 assists on 38.6 percent shooting (23.1 percent from three) in 8.6 minutes per game. He appeared in 34 games that year, all off the bench.

A former four-star recruit out of St. Paul (Minn.) Cretin-Derham Hall High School, Holloman played an important role for Michigan State during its Elite Eight run this season. He split time at the point guard and shooting guard positions, adding a playmaking and scoring punch for the Spartans, mostly off the bench.

North Carolina State fired head coach Kevin Keatts following a 12-19 (5-15) finish in the ACC this season. Keatts led the Wolfpack on a surprise run to the Final Four just one year prior. Holloman will play under former LSU and McNeese State coach Will Wade, whom North Carolina State hired on March 23.

As of now, Michigan State will return freshman Kur Teng at the shooting guard position. Fellow backcourt mate Jeremy Fears, a redshirt freshman point guard, also has the option to return.

Sophomore Coen Carr and incoming four-star high school recruits Cam Ward and Jordan Scott are expected to provide Michigan State with depth on the wing. The Spartans also picked up Florida Atlantic transfer wing Kaleb Glenn via the portal on Thursday.

Michigan State will graduate Jaden Akins from its backcourt and Frankie Fidler on the wing. Richardson announced on Tuesday that he will enter the NBA Draft.

Holloman becomes the second player from the 2024-25 team to transfer elsewhere. Former Michigan State forward Xavier Booker committed to UCLA on April 4. Gehrig Normand entered the portal on April 1 but has yet to announce his plans for next season.
