EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State junior guard Tre Holloman and redshirt freshman guard Gehrig Normand entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, SpartanMag confirmed with the university.

Holloman (6-2, 185) played three seasons at Michigan State. He averaged 9.1 points and 3.7 assists per game on 37.3 percent shooting (32.9 percent from three) this season. Holloman averaged a career-high 23.1 minutes per game this year.

A team captain, Holloman briefly held a starting role before handing it over to freshman guard Jase Richardson in early February. Holloman, a Minneapolis native, made 37 appearances for Michigan State this season, including 16 starts.

Holloman averaged 5.7 points and 2.4 assists on 47.1 shooting (42.5 percent from three) in 19.7 minutes per game as a sophomore. He started two of his 35 appearances for Michigan State that season. The season prior, Holloman averaged 1.3 points and 0.9 assists on 38.6 percent shooting (23.1 percent from three) in 8.6 minutes per game. He appeared in 34 games that year, all off the bench.

A former four-star recruit out of St. Paul (Minn.) Cretin-Derham Hall High School, Holloman played an important role for Michigan State during its Elite Eight run this season. He split time at the point guard and shooting guard positions, adding a playmaking and scoring punch for the Spartans, mostly off the bench.

Normand (6-5, 190) redshirted his freshman year at Michigan State in 2023-24. The former four-star recruit from North Richland (Texas) Birdville High School struggled to earn playing time in a deep Spartan rotation this year after injuring his knee during the preseason.

The North Richland, Texas, native averaged 0.6 points on 37.5 percent shooting (33.3 percent from three) in two minutes per game this season. He appeared in 13 games for the Spartans. Normand mostly provided value as a member the Spartans’ scout team during practices.

Normand was the No. 82 player in the 2023 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He also was the No. 20 shooting guard and No. 6 player from Texas in his class.

As of now, Michigan State will return freshman Kur Teng at the shooting guard position. The Spartans also are awaiting an NBA Draft decision from Richardson. Fellow backcourt mate Jeremy Fears, a redshirt freshman point guard, also has the option to return. Sophomore Coen Carr and incoming four-star high school recruits Cam Ward and Jordan Scott are expected to provide Michigan State with depth at the small forward spot.

Michigan State also graduated Jaden Akins from its backcourt and Frankie Fidler on the wing.

Holloman and Normand will have until April 22 to determine their next destination. They also have the option to return to Michigan State.
