Michigan State how to watch

East Lansing, Mich. Michigan State will open Big Ten play on Tuesday when No. 23 Wisconsin visits the Breslin Center.

The Badgers, led by nine-year head coach Greg Gard, are coming off an impressive 75-64 home win over Marquette, which was ranked No. 3 at the time.

Wisconsin started the season 1-2, with losses to Providence and Tennessee. But the Badgers are on a five-game win streak, which began with a 78-68 victory over Robert Morris on Nov. 18. Since then, Wisconsin has bested Virginia, SMU, Western Illinois and Marquette.

Wisconsin ended last season with a 56-54 loss to North Texas in the semifinals of the NIT.

Michigan State has won three of its last four games, with its only loss during that stretch coming to now-No. 1 Arizona on Thanksgiving. Spartan forward Malik Hall is questionable to play on Tuesday due to a flu-like symptoms.

A brief look at Wisconsin

Former St. John’s wing AJ Storr has made an instant impact during his first season in Madison. He leads Wisconsin with 13.3 points per game on 39.4 percent shooting (21.4 percent from three). At 6-foot-7, 205 pounds, Storr provides the Badgers with an athletic two-way scoring option.

Center Steven Crowl has looked like one of the more improved players in the conference so far. Crowl is averaging 11.5 points and 7.9 rebounds per game on 63 percent shooting (3-of-5 from three).

Forward Tyler Wahl and guard Chucky Hepburn provide the Badgers with two proven pieces. Wahl is averaging 10.9 points and 5.9 rebounds on the season, while Hepburn is averaging 10.8 points and 3.1 assists per game on 42.5 percent shooting (26.7 percent from three).

Connor Essegian has struggled this season after emerging as a starter for Wisconsin last year. Essegian injured his back in the season opener and has endured stretches of inconsistency ever since.

Wisconsin returned eight of the nine players who featured in its final game of the 2022-23 season.

Starters:

PG: Chucky Hepburn (6-2, 195, Jr.)
SG: Max Klesmit (6-4, 200, Jr.)
