Michigan State receive commitment from three-star OL Rakeem Johnson
Michigan State football continued its red-hot December landing Boise (Idaho) Bishop Kelly three-star offensive lineman Rakeem Johnson, he announced on social media Dec. 19. Johnson de-committed from Oregon State on Dec. 11, shortly after Jonathan Smith’s departure. Smith—who accepted the Michigan State head coaching job—brought Beavers’ offensive line coach Jim Michalczik with him to East Lansing.
Michalczik extended an offer to Johnson on Dec. 12, and worked quickly to get the three-star on campus for a visit.
“Coach (Michalcik) called me and told me that he had to re-evaluate his roster and let me know,” Johnson told SpartanMag.com. “He took his time and then re-offered me. I appreciate them for giving me the opportunity. It was stressful but they took their time and I appreciated that from them.”
Johnson officially visited Michigan State this past weekend alongside former Oregon State offensive line commits Rustin Young and Payton Stewart, who were also offered by Michalczik upon his arrival to East Lansing.
The 6-foot-3, 240-pound lineman held additional offers from Washington State, Cal, BYU, Boise State and Boston College.

Johnson is the No. 1417 ranked recruit in the nation, according to the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings. He is also the No. 126 interior offensive lineman and the No. 2 prospect in the state of Idaho.
The three-star is the 16th commitment in Michigan State’s 2024 recruiting class. Johnson also joins Cincinnati, Ohio, twins Mercer Luniewski and Charlton Luniewski as the fourth offensive line commit. Kelso, Washington, offensive tackle Payton Stewart also committed to Michigan State on Dec. 19.
Sources tell SpartanMag.com that the Spartans also sit well with the aforementioned Rustin Young following this weekend’s official visits.
