Michigan State lands 2025 California CB LaRue Zamorano
Michigan State struck big on the recruiting trail on July 27, landing three-star cornerback LaRue Zamorano, of Los Angeles (Calif.) Centennial High School. Zamorano announced his commitment via social media, picking the Spartans over finalists Washington, Kansas and Nebraska. He took official visits to all four schools, beginning with Michigan State on May 31. Zamorano was also recently offered by hometown program UCLA, just days before his Spartan commitment.
Zamorano also visited East Lansing in April for the Spartans’ Spring Showcase event. He has developed a strong relationship with Michigan State cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin, which dates back to Martin’s time recruiting Zamorano while he was at Oregon.
“I have a lot of respect for that man,” Zamorano said of Martin. “I feel humbled that he believes in me that much to come over (to Michigan State) and to be coached and groomed by him. He will help me become a better player and person.”
Michigan State freshman defensive back Jaylen Thompson hosted Zamorano on his visit. Thompson helped guide Zamorano and his family through the visit, showing the player side of life on campus.
“Michigan State 1,000 percent exceeded my exceptions I set for them,” Zamorano told SpartanMag after his official visit. “I wanted to come back and see the rest, like the players and their lifestyles. The day I got there was their first day back for summer conditioning. I got to see them workout and how they interact with the coaches, spend some time with the players and stuff, so everything was great.”
“It was great spending more time with coach Meat,” Zamorano continued. “He’s a great person, like an uncle to me. He has been recruiting me since eighth, ninth grade. (Martin) was waiting for me to hit ninth grade. He started recruiting me before high school. We have a real close bond.”
Zamorano (6-2, 175) also held offers from USC, Oregon and Penn State, among others. He is the No. 496 recruit in the 2025 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He’s also the No. 46 cornerback and the No. 41 recruit from California in his class.
