Michigan State lands 2026 Hartland (Mich.) DB Jack Lansing III as PWO

Michigan State landed its fifth commitment in its 2026 recruiting class Thursday afternoon in Hartland (Mich.) defensive back Jack Lansing III. Lansing chose the in-state Spartans over a preferred walk-on offer from Pittsburgh.
Lansing is the first walk-on to commit to Michigan State’s 2026 class. He’s also the first defensive player to join the class. The Spartans’ other 2026 commits include East Kentwood (Mich.) quarterback Kayd Coffman, North Branch (Mich.) offensive lineman Eli Bickel, Sioux Falls (S.D.) tight end Edward Whiting and New Lexington (Ohio) tight end Joey Caudill.

Lansing projects as a safety for Michigan State, although he plays a bit of linebacker and wide receiver for Hartland High School, too. He could have a similar role as walk-on Caleb Gash, who is a redshirt junior at Michigan State.
Spartans safeties coach James Adams has spent the past few days recruiting in Florida. He will look to continue bolstering his safety room in the coming weeks and months.
