Michigan State landed its first commit of the 2026 cycle when New Lexington (Ohio) tight end Joey Caudill announced his commitment to the Spartans via social media on Friday.

Caudill (6-5, 225) visited East Lansing for Michigan State’s junior day event during the weekend of Jan. 19. He was one of several tight end recruits on campus that weekend. The Spartans also hosted top quarterback target Kayd Coffman, in-state offensive lineman Eli Bickel, Ohio linebacker CJ Sanna, Indiana receiver Tayshon Bardo and a handful of other 2026 recruits for the event.

During the event, Caudill and his fellow visitors took in Michigan State’s basketball win over Illinois at the Breslin Center.

“The basketball game was really awesome,” Caudill told SpartanMag following his visit. “I thought it was cool to see all the fans and how passionate the Spartans are when they have a top team.”

Michigan State tight ends coach Brian Wozniak offered Caudill in early January. The Spartans represent Caudill’s only Power Four offer. Western Michigan, Toledo and Miami (Ohio) have also offered Caudill. He has also been in regular contact with Purdue and Rutgers, among others.

Aside from tight end, Caudill also plays defensive end, linebacker, safety and quarterback for New Lexington. Additionally, Caudill plans to play basketball for New Lexington this winter. He has yet to receive a ranking in the 2026 On3 Industry Rankings.

Michigan State is also heavily involved in the recruitments of 2026 in-state tight end Jack Janda and 2026 Ohio tight ends Preston Fryzel and Landen Miree, among others. With Caudill committed, the Spartans’ final 2026 tight end spot will now be decided on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Michigan State signed one tight end to its 2025 class in Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Mary’s product Jayden Savoury. Savoury will enroll at Michigan State this summer.
