Michigan State lands 2027 CB Khalil Terry
Michigan State received a surprise commitment in the class of 2027, landing California cornerback Khalil Terry on Dec. 1. The 2027 commitment comes after an unofficial visit to East Lansing over the weekend. Terry was offered by cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin in late November, quickly scheduling a visit for the last Spartan home game of the season.
The Tustin (CA) High School cornerback is the first commitment in the 2027 class for the Spartans. Michigan State does not hold any commitments in the class of 2026. The Spartans will look to sign their current 2025 class during the early signing period on Dec. 4.
Terry (5-10, 160) is not yet ranked by the 2027 On3 Industry Rankings. He holds other offers from Nebraska, Utah, Tennessee, Washington, and others.
Michigan State and cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin also offered Tustin (CA) High School 2027 linebacker Taven Epps, along with 2027 defensive lineman Jon Ioane, and 2027 defensive tackle Jeremiah Williams. The Spartan staff will likely remain active in all four of the recruitments, especially holding the early commitment from Terry.

The Spartans and Demetrice Martin will have to continue to recruit the early commitment, as signing day for the class of 2027 is over two years away. The early commitment allows Terry to begin recruiting others to join him, which benefits the Spartans early recruiting efforts. Michigan State will turn the page to the class of 2026 later this winter, as Wednesday marks the early singing period for the class of 2025.
Martin has had success recruiting the state of California, landing cornerback LaRue Zamorano of Los Angeles (CA) Centennial High School in the class of 2025. The West Coast connections have also given the Spartans a jumpstart in the recruitments of 2026 defensive backs Derrick Johnson, of Murrieta (CA) Valley, along with Andre Johnson of Ontario (CA) Colony High School, among others.
