Michigan State received a commitment from transfer portal wide receiver Evan Boyd, formerly of Central Michigan, Saturday night. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

Boyd (6-3, 210) originally entered the transfer portal on Dec. 9, but withdrew shortly thereafter. He entered again on Dec. 27 and committed to the Spartans during an official visit to East Lansing this weekend.

Michigan State wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins made it a priority to get Boyd on campus during his second stint in the portal. Boyd didn’t report any no additional offers or visits.

Boyd is very familiar with the Spartan program. The East Lansing native grew up just minutes away from Michigan State’s campus. His older brother, Ethan, played offensive line at Michigan State from 2022-23.

After redshirting the 2023 season, Boyd enjoyed a productive 2024 season for the Chippewas. Boyd finished the year with 21 receptions for 302 yards and two touchdowns. Boyd ranked third on Central Michigan in both receptions and yards. He was tied for second on the team in receiving touchdowns.

A former three-star recruit out of East Lansing (Mich.) High School, Boyd was the No. 1,991 player in the 2023 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He was also the No. 296 wide receiver and No. 32 player from Michigan in his class.

Boyd represents another option for Hawkins in Michigan State’s receiving room. Boyd joins Omari Kelly Jr. (Middle Tennessee) and Crishon McCray (Kent State) as the Spartans’ wide receiver additions through the portal this offseason. Those three will play alongside rising sophomores Nick Marsh, Jaylan Brown and Austin Clay.

The Spartans also signed three-star wide receivers Charles Taplin and Braylon Collier to their 2025 class.

Boyd likely is the fourth receiver on the depth chart behind Marsh, Kelly Jr. and McCray, but he offers upside as a depth piece with rotational experience and three years of eligibility remaining.

Boyd is Michigan State’s 13th transfer commitment of the December window. With classes starting on Monday, sources tell SpartanMag that Jan. 8 is the last day that December transfer additions can get admitted before the start of the semester.
