PORTAL UPDATE: Michigan State lands former Kent State WR Chrishon McCray
Michigan State received a big transfer portal commitment from former Kent State wide receiver Chrishon McCray on Monday. He announced his commitment via social media.
McCray took an official visit to Michigan State on Dec. 13. He did not announce any additional visits.
McCray announced additional offers from Kansas State, Boston College, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati and North Carolina, among others, after entering the portal.
McCray (5-10, 170) logged 40 receptions for 705 yards (17.6 yards per reception) and nine touchdowns this fall. He just completed his redshirt sophomore season, meaning he has two years of eligibility remaining.
The Avon, Ind., native also enjoyed a successful 2023 season, logging a team-high 610 yards and four touchdowns on 41 receptions. He redshirted the 2022 season, his first at Kent State.
McCray is a three-star portal prospect, per the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings. He was the No. 152 player and No. 25 wide receiver in the portal.

A former three-star high school recruit out of Avon (Ind.) High School, McCray was the No. 1,931 player in the 2022 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He was the No. 29 player from Indiana in his class. McCray ran for over 1,300 yards and 11 touchdowns during his high school career. He also logged over 1,600 career receiving yards with 18 receiving touchdowns.
Michigan State has seen four wide receivers enter the transfer portal this offseason: redshirt sophomores Jaron Glover and Antonio Gates and redshirt freshmen Aziah Johnson and Jaelen Smith. The Spartans will also have to replace graduating senior Montorie Foster.
As it stands, Michigan State is set to return three scholarship receivers: freshmen Nick Marsh, Jaylan Brown and Austin Clay. The Spartans also signed a pair of three-star receivers in Braylon Collier and Charles Taplin earlier this month.
The Spartans also received a commitment from former Middle Tennessee State wide receiver Omari Kelly Jr. on Dec. 15. Kelly (6-0, 180) just finished his junior season at Middle Tennessee State. He caught 53 passes for 869 yards and four touchdowns in 11 games (nine starts) this fall. He also returned eight punts for 83 yards and one touchdown.
