PORTAL UPDATE: Michigan State lands former UConn CB Malcolm Bell
Michigan State received another transfer portal commitment on Sunday, this time from former UConn cornerback Malcolm Bell. He announced the decision via social media.
Bell (6-2, 185) just completed his redshirt junior season with the Huskies. The Montreal native has one year of eligibility remaining.
Bell logged 96 total tackles, 13 pass deflections and one forced fumble in his four seasons with the Huskies. He played in 33 games during his time with UConn.
Bell totaled 26 tackles and three pass deflections in nine games in 2024.
Bell is a three-star portal prospect, per the On3 Industry Transfer Portal Rankings. He was the No. 459 player and No. 59 cornerback in the portal.
Bell graduated from Mississauga (Ontario) Clarkson Football North as part of the 2021 recruiting class.
Michigan State will have to replace graduating senior and starter Ed Woods at the cornerback spot next year. Former Spartan cornerback starter Charles Brantley entered the portal this offseason, too. He committed to Miami on Saturday.
Michigan State will return sophomores Chance Rucker and Jeremiah Hughes, redshirt sophomore Caleb Coley, junior Ade Willie, redshirt junior Lejond Cavazos and freshmen Andrew Brinson and Keshawn Williams at the position.

The Spartans also signed a pair of high school cornerbacks in three-stars Aydan West, of Gaithersburg (Md.), and Terrance Edwards, of Richmond (Va.).
Bell represents Michigan State’s 10th transfer portal commitment of the offseason. He joins cornerbacks Joshua Eaton (Oklahoma and Texas State) and NiJhay Burt (Eastern Illinois) in the current transfer class.
Eaton, Bell and Burt are all solid additions to the cornerback room. The Spartans will look to add at least one more secondary player via the portal this cycle.
The Spartans also hold a trio of portal offensive line commitments in Caleb Carter (Western Carolina), Luka Vincic (Oregon State) and Matt Gulbin (Wake Forest).
Michigan State also holds two wide receiver commitments in its transfer class: Former Kent State speed receiver Chrishon McCoy and former Middle Tennessee State deep threat Omari Kelly. Former Sacramento State running back Elijah Tau-Tolliver and Florida State defensive tackle Grady Kelly round out the class.
