EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State landed another portal offensive lineman on Sunday in former Wake Forest guard Matt Gulbin. The redshirt junior has one season of eligibility remaining.

Gulbin (6-4, 315) entered the portal on Dec. 18, following the firing of Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson. He did not report any additional offers or visits.

The Wilton, Conn., native earned honorable mention All-ACC recognition this fall. He started all 12 games for the Demon Deacons, totaling a career-high 909 snaps in the process. Gulbin’s 71.6 Pro Football Focus grade ranked third amongst ACC guards in 2024. His run blocking grade ranked 50th amongst all qualified guards and he allowed one sack all season.

Gulbin appeared in 11 games as a redshirt sophomore in 2023, including 10 starts. His PFF run blocking grade ranked second amongst ACC guards that season. Gulbin played in all 13 in games in 2022. He saw action in four games the year prior, which he redshirted.

The Wilton (Conn.) High School product is a three-star transfer prospect, per the On3 Industry Transfer Portal Rankings. He was the No. 225 player and No. 17 interior offensive lineman in the portal.

Gulbin committed to Wake Forest over offers from Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt and Coastal Carolina, among others, out of high school.

Gulbin serves as a significant addition to Michigan State’s offensive line room, which was in need of veteran talent following the graduations of center Tanner Miller, left guard Luke Newman and right guard/left tackle Brandon Baldwin. The Spartans also lost reserve lineman Dallas Fincher to San Diego State via the portal.

Aside from Gulbin, Michigan State has added guard Caleb Carter (Western Carolina) and guard/center Luka Vincic (Oregon State) to its offensive line room via the portal. Guards Kristian Phillips, Gavin Broscious and Cole Dellinger all have the option to return next season, as do tackles Stanton Ramil and Ashton Lepo.

Last year’s freshman offensive line class of Rakeem Johnson, Rustin Young, Andrew Dennis, Mercer and Charlton Luniewski and Payton Stewart all have the option to return, too. The Spartans also signed a pair of three-star offensive linemen in guard Drew Nichols and tackle Justin Bell.

Gulbin represents Michigan State’s ninth portal addition of the December window. He joins fellow offensive linemen Carter and Vincic, as well as cornerback NiJhay Burt (Eastern Illinois), cornerback Joshua Eaton (Texas State), wide receiver Chrishon McCoy (Kent State), running back Elijah Tau-Tolliver (Sacramento State), wide receiver Omari Kelly (Middle Tennessee State) and defensive tackle Grady Kelly (Florida State).
