Michigan State lands four-star PG Jase Richardson
Michigan State basketball received a major commitment to their 2024 recruiting class, adding four-star guard Jase Richardson. The 6-foot-3, 175-pound guard announced his commitment on ESPN, as the Columbus (Fla.) Explorers took place in the Top Flight Invitational. Richardson announced his commitment at halftime of the fifth place game. The Explorers will participate in the championship game on Oct. 15 at 9:00pm eastern against the Florida Eagles.
Richardson chose Tom Izzo and the Spartans over other offers including Kansas, USC, Florida, Arkansas, and more.
“How to be a point guard,” Richardson told ESPN on what he can learn from Izzo. “AJ Hoggard, Tyson Walker, I feel like he has done a great job developing his guards.”
“(I will bring) a lot of energy. I feel like I am a high energy guy. Definitely going to bring some offense. I feel like I am a playmaker and an all around guy for the team.”
Richardson posted 24 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks in the Oct. 12 game against another powerhouse in Prolific Prep (Calif.) High School. He is playing alongside 2025 five-stars Cayden Boozer and Cameron Boozer. The two are sons of former NBA player Carlos Boozer.
Jase is the son of former Michigan State and NBA player Jason Richardson. The Spartans won a national champion during Jason Richardson’s time in East Lansing.
The four-star most recently visited Michigan State on an official visit in September.
Richardson took official visits to all three finalist before his October decision. He eventually narrowed his candidates down to the Spartans, along with Alabama, and Cincinnati.

Richardson is ranked a four-star, the No. 39 overall recruit in the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings. He is also ranked the No. 6 point guard in his class.
SpartanMag.com’s Paul Konydyk spoke with On3.com’s senior national recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw on how Richardson would fit at Michigan State. Shaw classified Richardson as a point guard, capable of playing in a two guard system.
“Richardson is a crafty lead guard who has really come into his athleticism over the past 8-12 months,” Shaw said. “He is an average-sized guard, but has good feel for getting to his spots and playing with good balance in traffic. He has quick-twitch with the ball in his hands and is comfortable getting into his jump shot off the bounce.”
Richardson is the third four-star commitment in the Michigan State 2024 recruiting class. He joins four-star big man Jesse McCulloch (6-9, 215), of Cleveland (Ohio) Lutheran East, and four-star shooting guard Kur Teng (6-4, 185), of Bradford (Mass.) Christian Academy.
Michigan State continues to recruit five-star small forward Bryson Tucker (6-7, 195), of Baltimore (Md.), as the last member to the 2024 class. Tucker is a highly contested recruitment, holding offers from Duke, Kansas, Villanova, Georgetown, Maryland, and more. Michigan State received the only official visit so far of his recruitment over the summer. The G-league is another option for Tucker.
