East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State has landed former Oregon defensive tackle Ben Roberts via the transfer portal, sources confirm to SpartanMag. Roberts, a redshirt sophomore, visited Michigan State on Tuesday. He has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Roberts (6-2, 310) played in 10 games over his two seasons with the Ducks. He logged two tackles in five games (34 snaps) last season, which he redshirted. He also blocked an extra point in two special teams snaps last season.
The Lakewood, Wash., native totaled three tackles in five games (48 snaps) as a freshman in 2022.
A former four-star recruit out of Salt Lake City (Utah) East High School, Roberts was the No. 338 player in the 2022 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He was also the No. 42 defensive lineman and No. 4 player from Utah in his class.
The addition of Roberts helps shore up a Michigan State defensive tackle room that saw notable attrition this spring. Both Derrick Harmon (Oregon) and Simeon Barrow (Miami) – the Spartans’ projected starters at the position – found new homes through the transfer portal.

Michigan State responded by adding former Nebraska defensive tackle Ru’Quan Buckley on May 6 and former Old Dominion defensive tackle Jalen Satchell on Sunday. Roberts, Buckley and Satchell join a room that features veterans Maverick Hansen and D’Quan Douse, redshirt sophomore Alex VanSumeren, walk-on Ben Nelson and true freshman Mikeshun Beeler.
Including Roberts, Michigan State has added 19 players through the transfer portal so far this offseason.
