Aaron Alexander commits to Michigan State

Michigan State received a commitment out of the transfer portal when former Massachusetts linebacker Aaron Alexander pledged to the Spartans via social media. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound linebacker is originally out of Belleville (MI) High School, graduating in the class of 2021. Sources tell SpartanMag.com that Alexander will join the Spartans as a preferred walk-on.

Alexander was rated a three-star recruit, the No. 1028 overall recruit, No. 105 overall linebacker, and the No. 25 recruit in the state of Michigan in 2021 according to the On3 Consensus. Alexander spent the majority of his recruitment committed to Michigan before his scholarship was pulled by the Wolverines before early signing day, last December. The three-star recruit quickly found a new home with Massachusetts, spending one season with the Minutemen. He participated in three games logging zero statistics.

Headed into the summer before his senior year at Belleville, Alexander held offers from Marshall and Eastern Illinois. He camped with the Wolverines on June 13 of 2021 and earned an offer, reportedly testing very well in the 40-yard dash. He committed to Michigan at the end of July and remained committed until Dec. 16.

Alexander will boost the depth on the roster as Michigan State lost four-star linebacker commitment Jayvant Brown out of Fort Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas. Brown decommitted from the Spartans on Dec. 18. Brown was in the Spartans class for a little over a month, committing on Nov. 13. The Spartans are expected to sign four-star Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy linebacker Jordan Hall on Wednesday (Dec. 20), the lone linebacker commit in the 2023 class at this juncture. Michigan State has yet to fill the linebacker scholarship slot vacated by Brown’s decommitment.

Michigan State continues to add quality depth out of the transfer portal, using walk-on slots. Including Alexander, SpartanMag is told Wisconsin transfer defensive back Semar Melvin, and transfer tight end Jaylan Franklin are also walk-on commitments. Michigan State also added Norfolk State tight end Ademola Faleye as a walk on prospect, with at least one more to come.
