Michigan State lands three-star EDGE Kekai Burnett
Michigan State football lands a commitment from Honolulu (Hawaii) Punahou three-star edge rusher Kekai Burnett, he announced on social media Tuesday. The one-time Oregon State commit visited East Lansing on an official visit this past weekend.
The 6-foot-2, 235-pounder re-opened his recruitment shortly after Jonathan Smith accepted the Michigan State head coaching job. Former Oregon State defensive line coach Legi Suiaunoa followed Smith to East Lansing.
“Coach Legi, he is a great football coach,” Burnett said. “He knows his stuff. I met with him for a one-on-one meeting. He was talking about football and he is just a great coach. The thing about Coach Smith and Coach Legi, they are not just great football coaches, they are also great people. They have beautiful families and that is what I like most about them.”
Suiaunoa—of Samoan heritage—has deep ties to the Hawaiian state, including a brief stint as Hawai’i’s defensive line coach from 2016-2017.
