Michigan State received a transfer portal commitment from defensive end Anthony Jones on Sunday. He announced his commitment on social media via On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Jones (6-4, 255) spent the weekend in East Lansing for an official visit. He also took an official visit to California on April 4. He picked up offers from UCLA, Kansas and Georgia Tech, among others, after entering the transfer portal earlier this spring.

Jones spent the 2023 season with Indiana, where he appeared in all 12 games under former Hoosier defensive coordinator and current Michigan State rush ends coach Chad Wilt. Jones started four games last season as a redshirt freshman, logging 12 tackles.

The Las Vegas native spent his true freshman season at Oregon, where he developed a close bond with current Michigan State cornerbacks Demetrice Martin. Jones played in two games at Oregon, logging one tackle. He redshirted the remainder of the season.

Jones will look to provide much-needed depth for Michigan State on the defensive line. He will compete for playing time with the likes of Jalen Thompson, Khris Bogle, Ken Talley and Bai Jobe, among others.

Michigan State will also host transfer portal defensive end Eddie Kelly for an official visit on April 24-25, he told SpartanMag. Kelly (6-4, 280) spent the 2023 season with Georgia Tech, logging 36 tackles in five games as a true sophomore.

The Spartans also offered former Youngstown State and Illinois defensive lineman Anthony Johnson. Johnson has already taken an official visit to East Lansing. SpartanMag is working to confirm the date of that visit.

Michigan State defensive line coach Legi Suiaunoa also offered former Rutgers defensive tackle Rene Konga on April 19. Konga played in 21 career games with the Scarlet Knights, racking up 14 career tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks. He played in 10 games this past season, logging eight tackles and a strip sack.

Transfer portal defensive lineman Brandon Lane told SpartanMag that he is looking to set up an unofficial visit with Michigan State soon. Lane (6-5, 270) spent the previous two seasons with Stephen F. Austin, where he logged 56 career tackles, 2.5 sacks and a fumble recovery. He logged 45 tackles last season. Lane also spent two seasons with South Dakota State prior to his time at Stephen F. Austin.
