Michigan State lands transfer portal IOL Tanner Miller
Michigan State landed another key addition out of the transfer portal on Jan. 7, landing 2023 first team All-Pac 12 interior offensive lineman Tanner Miller. Miller spent the previous five seasons in Corvallis under now current Michigan Sate head coach Jonathan Smith, offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren, and offensive line coach Jim Michalczik. East Lansing was his first and only recruiting visit (Jan. 5) while in the transfer portal. He announced his commitment via social media.
Miller (6-1, 290) started mainly at right guard for the Beavers, also starting a few games at center in 2023. Michigan State is need of interior offensive lineman, as Miller provides the flexibility to play either guard spot, or line up at center where he will likely be most needed.
Out of Valencia (Calif.), Miller was an unranked recruit out of high school in the class of 2019. He committed to Oregon State over one other offer from Southern Utah. After redshirting his first year on campus, Miller played in two games during the 2020 Covid season.
He broke into the playing group in 2021, appearing in all 12 games for the Beavers. In 2022, he took over a permanent starting job, a part of an offensive line that helped the Beavers rush for 196.5 yards per game, among the Pac-12’s leaders.

Miller was named to the Associated Press 2023 mid-season All-American team, as second team right guard. The interior lineman will likely slot in as a starter for Michigan State in 2024 at either guard or the center position.
Michigan State will return 2023 starting right guard Geno Vandemark in 2024 as he withdrew his name from the transfer portal earlier this off-season. The Spartans will also look to less experienced depth in junior Dallas Fincher, redshirt freshmen Kristian Phillips and Gavin Broscious, and freshman Cole Dellinger on the interior offensive line.
