Michigan State football received more bad news to the program following a 31-9 loss to Maryland in East Lansing on Saturday night. The Spartans lost class of 2024 defensive back commitment Camren Campbell, of Tampa (FL) Technical School. He announced his decommitment via social media.

“First I would like to thank God and the entire MSU staff for giving me an opportunity to showcase my talent at such a high level,” Campbell wrote. “I have the utmost respect for the MSU staff and thank you for the hospitality and care you have shown me and my family. With that being said, I’ll be opening back up my recruitment to explore my academic and athletic future.”

Campbell (6-1, 175), had been committed to the Spartans since mid-June. His other offers include Kansas State (who offered recently, on Sept. 20), Louisville, Minnesota, South Florida, Mississippi, Boston College, and others.

Interim head coach Harlon Barnett led the recruitment of Campbell, a big reason the Florida defensive back committed to Michigan State on his official visit in June. Campbell also took an official visit to Boston College.

The Florida three-star will likely not be the last recruit in the class to decommit, as the Michigan State class now sits at 12 commitments. Four-star offensive lineman Andrew Dennis took an unofficial visit to Illinois on Sept. 23. Wide receiver and highest ranked recruit in the Spartan class, Nick Marsh, is entertaining an official visit to Boulder (CO), as Deion Sanders and Colorado recently offered the four-star.

Four-star safety Reggie Powers remains locked in for the moment, with Oklahoma recently offering the Dayton (OH) product. Three-star defensive back Justin Denson also remains committed to Michigan State for the time being, with other programs circling. Four-star running back Anthony Carrie of Tampa (FL) Carrollwood Day High School also continues to hear from other high level programs. He committed to Michigan State over finalists of North Carolina, South Carolina, Notre Dame, Florida, and others.
