2024 three-star QB Henry Hasselbeck decommits from Michigan State
Michigan State lost a commitment from Westwood (Mass.) Xaverian Brothers 2024 three-star quarterback Henry Hasselbeck Friday night. Hasselbeck committed to the Spartans’ previous coaching staff in June.
“With all that has changed (at Michigan State), I believe it is wise for me to start my recruiting process over again,” Hasselbeck said Friday on Twitter. “I’d like to publicly thank the previous staff at Michigan State, especially coaches (Jay) Johnson, (Chris) Kapilovic, (Jason) Novak and (Jake) Reiling, among others, for initiating my interest in Michigan State.
“Michigan State is still a strong consideration for me. I had a great first conversation with coach Brian Lindgren and I look forward to getting to know him and the new Michigan State staff better.”
Hasselbeck is the No. 1338 prospect in the 2024 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He is also ranked the No. 73 quarterback in the class and the No. 7 player from Massachusetts.
The 6-foot-3, 170-pound Hasselbeck has offers from Boston College, Pittsburgh, Arizona, Georgia Tech and UCLA, among others. His UCLA offer came just a couple weeks ago on Nov. 16, while the rest of his offers came prior to his commitment to the Spartans in June.

Hasselbeck just ended his senior season with a Division I State Championship. His Xaverian Brothers Hawks knocked off state-power St. John’s Prep, 31-25, Wednesday at Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots.
Hasselbeck is the son of 18-year NFL veteran Matt Hasselbeck. With his decommitment, the Spartans’ 2024 class is down to seven commitments.
But the Spartans’ new coaching staff has made quick work on the recruiting trail over the past week, extending several offers to Oregon State commits, transfers and many in-state high school standouts.
New Spartan head coach Jonathan Smith and his staff have also re-recruited current Michigan State commits, including River Rouge wide receiver Nick Marsh. Marsh reaffirmed his commitment to the Spartans on Friday.
