Michigan State men's basketball releases 2023-24 non-conference schedule

East Lansing, Mich.Michigan State men’s basketball announced its non-conference schedule for the upcoming 2023-24 season on Thursday. The loaded non-conference schedule is highlighted by games against Duke, Arizona, and Baylor. The Spartans will also face Butler at the Breslin Center in The Gavitt Tipoff games.

Michigan State opens the season with two exhibition games, including with Hillsdale College on Wednesday, October 25. Michigan State will then host Tennessee at the Breslin Center on Sunday, October 29.

The exhibition game between Michigan State and Tennessee will be open to fans. All proceeds from the game will be be donated to the Hawai’i Community Foundation Maui Strong Fund, providing financial assistance to the relief efforts related to the from the Maui wildfires, the university announced Wednesday.

“The Maui Invitational and the city of Lahaina have always held a special place in my heart,” Michigan State Head Coach Tom Izzo said in a statement released by the university, Wednesday morning. “The images we’ve all seen and the stories we’ve heard following the wildfires have touched so many of us in the college basketball world and I know that our thoughts and prayers are with all of those who have been affected.”

Michigan State will open the regular season with back-to-back home games. The Spartans will host James Madison on Monday, November 6. Southern Indiana will head to the Breslin Center to face the Spartans on Thursday, November 9.

Tom Izzo and the Spartans will then head to Chicago’s United Center to face Duke in the Champions Classic on November 19 in what may potentially be a Top 5 match-up. The Spartans and Blue Devils have both been fixtures in pre-season rankings, including The ESPN Way Too Early Top 25, which ranked Duke No. 2 and Michigan State No. 4 at the start of August.

Michigan State will travel back to East Lansing and host Butler in the Gavitt Tipoff Games on Friday, November 17.

The Spartans will face Alcorn State just two days later on Sunday, November 19. The matchup is the first of the inaugural Acrisure Classic.

Michigan State will continue its Acrisure Classic games on Thanksgiving Day, taking on Arizona at Acrisure Arena in Palm Springs, California. That game will follow the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers match up as part of a double-header on FOX.

Returning form their West Coast trip, the Spartans will face Georgia Southern on Tuesday, November 28 at the Breslin Center.

Michigan State will then play its final non-conference game away from the Breslin Center on Saturday, December 16. The Spartans will take on Baylor at Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit.

Michigan State will host Greg Kampe and Oakland University on Monday, December 18. The Spartans and Grizzlies have faced off 21 times in the history of the two programs. Michigan State holds a 21-0 record since first matchup against Oakland in 1998.

The Spartans will complete their non-conference schedule against Stony Brook on Thursday, December 21 and Indiana State on Friday, December 29 or Saturday, December 30.
