Michigan State Nightly Transfer Portal Briefing: Two new commits, LB offers, more

The Michigan State Nightly Briefing is back, this time in transfer portal format, as SpartanMag.com will break down all of news from the day each evening throughout the transfer portal period. 

In tonight’s version we will discuss new commitments, along with some new offers, and more. You can find the full SpartanMag.com transfer portal tracker HERE. The list is updated daily and holds a full list of offers and visit dates.

New commitments:

Michigan State stayed hot on the portal recruiting trail Tuesday, this time adding a commitment from former Sacramento State running back Elijah Tau-Tolliver. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

Tau-Tolliver (6-1, 204) spent the last four seasons at Sacramento State. He carried the ball 184 times for 950 yards and seven touchdowns as a redshirt junior this fall, earning honorable mention All-Big Sky recognition in the process.

Michigan State picked up a second transfer portal commitment, this time from offensive lineman Caleb Carter of Western Carolina. The Spartans secured the redshirt junior’s commitment after official visits to East Lansing (Dec. 9), Wake Forest (Dec. 11), and Arizona (Dec. 13).

Carter played in 34 games over the past five years for Western Carolina. He played in all 11 games this fall after only playing in two the year prior due to a season-ending injury. Carter played in 11 games (including one start) for the Catamounts in 2022, and 10 games, mostly on special teams, in 2021. He redshirted the 2020 season, his first at Western Carolina.

Former UConn DB on campus:

Michigan State is currently hosting former UConn cornerback Malcolm Bell for an official visit.

Bell totaled 94 tackles, 5 TFL and 13 PD during his time with the Huskies. He is originally a native of Montreal (QC), as he just wrapped up his redshirt junior season.

On3 ranks Bell the No. 480 overall recruit in transfer portal. He is also ranked the No. 61 cornerback.

New offers:

Former Eastern Kentucky linebacker Maddox Marcellus announced an offer from Michigan State via social media on Tuesday. Marcellus (6-3, 225) is a native of Miami, Fla. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

The linebacker logged 97 total tackles, seven for a loss, two interceptions, along with a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a touchdown in 12 games as a sophomore in 2024.

He earned first team all conference for Eastern Kentucky in 2024. Marcellus also played in 10 games as a freshman in 2023.

Marcellus announced other offers from Indiana, Virginia, Houston, Kansas State, and others since entering the portal. He tells SpartanMag.com he is currently in the works of scheduling an official visit to East Lansing.

Michigan State offered former Idaho linebacker Jaxton Eck, the son of recently hired New Mexico head coach Jason Eck.

Eck (6-1, 225) just completed his sophomore season with Idaho. He played in 14 games in 2024, logging 134 total tackles, 3.5 for a loss, along with an interception and a pass deflection.

He also played in 12 games as a freshman, logging 37 total tackles, three for a loss, and two pass deflections.

Eck was named first team all-Big Sky in 2024. He has announced other offers from Stanford, NC State, Western Michigan, and others since entering the portal on Dec. 16.

Michigan State also offered former Massachusetts defensive end Kofi Asare this evening.

Asare (6-5, 240) logged 30 total tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble in 2024. He appeared in eight games in 2023.

The defensive end has announced other offers from Mississippi State, Iowa State, Virginia, South Florida, and more.

Former South Carolina tight end Connor Cox broke down his Michigan State official visit with SpartanMag.com. He will wrap up a visit with North Carolina today, as he looks to make a final decision on Wednesday (Dec. 18).
