Michigan State offensive guard Geno VanDeMark withdraws from transfer portal
East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State received positive news on the transfer portal front on Wednesday when rising junior offensive guard Geno VanDeMark withdrew his name. VanDeMark plans to return to the Spartans in 2024.
VanDeMark (6-5, 320, Lodi, NJ) started six games for the Spartans in 2023. He missed six games due to injury.
VanDeMark entered the portal on Nov. 28. He is the sixth Spartan scholarship player to withdraw from the portal and announce plans to return to Michigan State, joining offensive tackle Brandon Baldwin, offensive tackle Ethan Boyd, linebacker Darius Snow, offensive guard Kristian Phillips and wide receiver Jaron Glover.
Eight Spartan scholarship players are still in the portal and uncommitted: tight end Maliq Carr, defensive end Zion Young, cornerback Charles Brantley, defensive tackle Derrick Harmon, linebacker Jacoby Windmon, defensive end Khris Bogle, defensive tackle Deandre Butler and linebacker Quavian Carter. (Update: Harmon withdrew from the portal on Wednesday afternoon.)

Carter entered the portal earlier this week. In two years on the roster, he never saw the field with the Spartans.
New head coach Jonathan Smith said the Spartans are working to get some of the players in the portal to return to Michigan State. Sources tell SpartanMag that the Spartans are making strong progress toward getting Harmon and Windmon to return. MSU has also improved its chances with Young in recent days. It’s unclear where Michigan State stands with Carr, Brantley, Bogle and Butler.
Butler tells SpartanMag that he has received interest from Florida Atlantic, Charlotte and Coastal Carolina.
