Michigan State starting right tackle Spencer Brown has entered the NCAA transfer portal, he announced via social media on Monday. Brown will have one year of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-6, 315-pound lineman started over 20 games during his time in East Lansing. Brown earned his first career start in Michigan State’s Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl victory over Pittsburgh in 2021.

Rotating between right and left tackle, Brown played 519 snaps this season. He missed one game due to injury. The Walled Lake (Mich.) Western graduate was named to the Reese’s Senior Bowl Watch List prior to the 2023 season.

Brown—who enrolled at Michigan State during the spring of 2019—was a three-star prospect out of high school. The Canton, Mich., native was ranked the No. 545 recruit in the nation and the No. 13 player in Michigan, according to the 2019 On3 Industry Rankings.

Brown signed with the Spartans over additional offers from Michigan, LSU, Tennessee, Kentucky and Florida, among others.

Brown redshirted his freshman season in 2019. Following the season, Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio retired. The Spartans hired Mel Tucker to replace Dantonio in February 2020.

Along with Dantonio, Brown’s position coach at the time, Jim Bollman, also left the program. Offensive line coach Chris Kapliovic followed Tucker from Colorado to East Lansing. On Saturday, Kapilovic and the rest of Michigan State’s remaining assistant coaches were relieved of their duties.

Michigan State named Oregon State’s Jonathan Smith as the program’s new head coach on Nov. 25. Beavers’ offensive line coach Jim Michalczik will join Smith’s coaching staff in East Lansing, sources tell SpartanMag.com.
